Picture View Cottages - History

Walter E. and Marie Waring purchased the two acre beach front  property on Newfound Lake in Bristol, NH in 1954 and built each cottage and gambrel while raising 9 children and 13 grandchildren.

According to family legend, Papa had just finished building the first cottage with a picture window framing the fabulous view and was finally moving the growing family from their temporary lodgings of a tent, when a passerby asked Nana if the cottage was for rent. She said yes, it was, and the Waring brood moved back into the tent. For the next several summers, Papa kept building cottages with picture windows and Nana kept on renting them. And so, Picture View Cottages was born.

Picture View carries on tradition in memory of "Nana & Papa" Waring

In 1983, Papa retired from his full-time job and Nana and Papa were able to move to their beloved Lake full time. Papa then built 3 year round homes, one for themselves and two for Nana to rent. Papa then went on to rebuild one of the original 5 cottages a decade later. Even as octogenarians, he     and Nana remained active and enjoyed entertaining guests at Picture View until    their deaths.

"Papa's Playground" has become a summer home remembered    fondly by innumerable visitors and we hope to carry on Nana and Papa's loving tradition of providing family fun and relaxation. Please join us - the Next Generation - in keeping the tradition alive...The Waring Family
